Useful Organisations for a Naturalist to know about
The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB)
An organisation started by a group of women from Manchester who were concerned about wild birds being used in fashionable clothing in 1889 - that's over 120 years ago, has now grown to be (I believe) the second largest wildlife conservation organisation in the world. With over 1 million members they pack some clout and get things done. You would be forgiven in assuming that they are all about birds and while they do take on the world from a feathery perspective they are as much about habitat conservation and the preservation of all other wildlife. They manage over 200 nature reserves and are the UK's birdlife international partner. Membership carries with it many perks including free entry to the reserves and a quarterly magazine. They have a young membership Wildlife Explorers as well as a membership aimed at teenagers called Phoenix as well.
