just wondered if anyone would be interested in joining and supporting this http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=206489702472&ref=mf regarding the complete abuse and disrespect of animals especially arthropods (insects) purely for "entertainment" purpose on the Im a celebrity programme.

I cant say I've ever seen this program, it sounds like the worst thing I've ever heard. So explain to us further how they are causing cruelty to animals?

hi scott , this programme has been going quite a few years now l watched it on and off but did take more of an interest when fellow punk john lydon was was a "contestant" or whatever they are classed as, the basic repertoire of the annual series is getting a collection of celebrities together taking away all their luxuries etc and putting them in a camp like enviroment, then making them perform various "bush tucker trials" to earn stars which convert to meals for camp mates.
During the first one or two series of the programme the worst of these trials involved a one off eating trial which would consist of various disgusting things, including things like kangaroo testicles etc, then as the series continued the eating trials got more frequent and included eating live cockroaches, witchety grubs, locusts etc, other trials involving animals also increased all in the name of "entertainment".
There was one long trial done by Dean Gaffeny whereby he was made to stand in a sauna tub like box, while in there they allowed a large number of rats into the floor where he was standing, at this moment Dean panicked and began stamping up and down in a frenzy therefor putting the safety of the rats at risk, in fact l am convinced that when they opened the front after the trial l saw the helper move a dead rat from the front of the opening, as this "trial" progressed they then got Dean to get into a large paddling pool of young crocs to get stars, again as the crocs moved Dean panicked and began stamping about but this trial wasnt stopped either.
ln more recent series more and more species of insects are killed and injured in their increasing efforts to shock and repulse their viewers, l have seen young crocs with their mouths taped up with gaffa tape, spiders with things stuck on their fangs, snakes of varying species mixed together in large quantities which have attacked a celebrity but strangely not left any mark. On one particular programme they had a celeb go into a large pond like area which had a number of large crocs around the edge, but if the footage is slowed down you can see a number of marksmen with rifles ready to shoot should the crocs move too close??
They also had a pile of letters near the end of the last series which the show had requested from various schools asking for ideas for trials on future programmes, they didnt seem at all fazed by the fact that virtually every letter that was read out involved using animals in a way that would stress or kill them just for supposed "entertainment", l think this is giving a VERY wrong message to children.
There are many other things but they are listed on the facebook link or on the petitions etc
l am not one to just think its wrong but say nothing which is why l have set up the facebook group and intend to protest outside the studio until they agree to stop using animals in this way.

shows like this have existed for years and sadly there isnt much that can be done to stop them. I can say off the top of my head-> fear factor and survivor.

not sure i believe the crocodile marksman story, any sniper in their right mind would not trust their skills to save someone, never less from a crocodile that is practically bulletproof other than the neck.

Scott - Consider yourself lucky its not even good TV!

Best way to stop it, is not to watch it. If the demand is not there then the progamme makers won't make it.

Best wishes

Helen

i agree
if people realise that shows like this are cruelty to animals and stop watching them, the show will have no market.

You can't just say people should stop watching this kind of thing, because it will never happen. There's a large proportion of people who just don't care. Some people are just cuel by nature and enjoy watching animal cruelty. Look at cock fighting, badger baiting, dog fights to name just a few.
Legislation is the only way to deal with this.
